FMCSA Random Testing Update

Effective January 1, 2020, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has raised the minimum annual percentage rate for random controlled substance testing from 25% to 50%. This increase affects commercial motor vehicle drivers with a commercial driver’s license.

The U.S. Department of Transportation is taking this action based on recent FMCSA surveys showing an increased number of drivers testing positive for controlled substance use. Therefore, you are required by law to immediately begin performing random drug testing on twice as many drivers as previously required to meet the new annual 50% requirement.
